Inflight service and seating

We have simplified our inflight catering to reduce contact between guests and our crew during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Business cabin: Each guest will receive a snack box containing a selection of delicious pre-packaged foods appropriate to the time of day. A range of hot and cold drinks, including beer and wine, are available on all flights.

Economy cabin: A complimentary snack and water will be offered on all flights. The sale of food and beverages onboard has been temporarily paused.

Things to know about upgrade options

What you need to know about upgrading with Platinum Complimentary Upgrades

Velocity Platinum members travelling on Virgin Australia Domestic or International Short Haul flights in a Freedom fare class can request a Business Class upgrade using one of four complimentary upgrade credits³.

Upgrades can also be redeemed for accompanying guests travelling on the same booking as the Platinum member, subject to availability.

To upgrade contact the Membership Contact Centre at either at the time of booking or to upgrade an existing booking, up to 2 hours before scheduled flight departure. Upgrades can also be requested at the Virgin Australia Lounge for Virgin Australia operated domestic flights with a VA flight number on the same day of travel, until 40 minutes prior to the flight’s scheduled departure4.

A Virgin Australia Lounge can only accept upgrade requests for flights that are departing from the airport the lounge is located. For operational reasons not all Business Class seats are made available for upgrades. This means that there may still be empty seats on departure.

If you’re successful, Virgin Australia will send an email no later than three hours before your departure advising you of your upgrade.

To be eligible, your flight must be a Virgin Australia operated flight with a VA flight number and your ticket must be issued by Virgin Australia with a ticket number beginning with ‘795’.

How to upgrade

  • Check your eligibility to upgrade
  • Make an offer to upgrade - Determine the amount you're willing to pay to upgrade.
  • Payment details - Enter your payment details - you will only be charged if your offer is successful.
  • Enjoy your flight - You will be emailed about the success of your offer no later than 4 hours prior to departure.

Offers must be made per flight sector. For example, Brisbane to Ayers Rock consists of two sectors, Brisbane to Sydney and Sydney to Ayers Rock.

Pricing is displayed per passenger for all passengers listed on the booking.
