Upgrade from Getaway, Elevate or Freedom Fare

  • You can upgrade your Virgin Australia operated flight online any time after you have purchased your Getaway, Elevate or Freedom fare until four hours prior to the scheduled flight departure time online, or until two hours prior to the scheduled flight departure via the Membership Contact Centre (a fee may apply). Availability is limited and controlled by Virgin Australia.
  • If you have made any special requests for your booking, including e.g. a Mobility or Medical Assistance request, please contact our Membership Contact Centre at least two hours prior to the scheduled flight departure time to request an upgrade. 
  • Gold, Silver and Red members with Virgin Australia lounge access can request an upgrade at Virgin Australia domestic lounges, from two hours prior to the scheduled flight departure time. Requests close 30 minutes prior to the scheduled flight departure time. A Virgin Australia Lounge can only accept upgrade requests for flights that are departing from the airport the lounge is located.
  • Platinum members may request an upgrade on any same-day Virgin Australia operated domestic sector from any Virgin Australia Domestic lounge. Requests close 30 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time.
  • If departing from Hobart, Gold and Platinum members can request an upgrade at Priority check-in, from 90 minutes prior to the scheduled flight departure time. Requests close 30 minutes prior to the scheduled flight departure time.

 Tip: If your preferred upgrade is unavailable when you make an UpgradeMe Points flight upgrade request, you may be able to register to waitlist for an upgrade.

Points required is based on each individual sector shown on itinerary. If a flight upgrade is requested on two or more individual sectors shown on an itinerary, Points required will be calculated and quoted separately for each flight sector. Information correct as at 1 September 2020.

Upgrade availability is limited and controlled by Virgin Australia. Availability may be limited or not available at all particularly during peak travel periods (e.g. school and public holidays), due to the popularity of these services. A cancellation and amendment fee may apply.

For operational reasons not all Business Class seats are made available for upgrades. This means that there may still be empty seats on departure.

​​​​​​​Virgin Australia International Short-Haul includes all international flights from Australia to Cook Islands, Fiji, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu.

Virgin Australia Trans-Tasman includes all flights between Australia and New Zealand.
