Flybuys and Velocity Frequent Flyer offer more points for less
● Flybuys and Velocity Frequent Flyer substantially improve their points transfer rate
● Minimum Flybuys points required to transfer to Velocity now halved
MELBOURNE, 14 January 2021: Flybuys, Australia’s most popular rewards program, and Velocity Frequent Flyer, Virgin Australia’s loyalty program, have today announced an exciting update to their partnership that will help Aussies collect and transfer points even faster.
This update will halve the minimum number of Flybuys points needed to transfer to Velocity while substantially improving the points transfer rate by almost 15%, helping members to collect even more Velocity Points with Flybuys.
Previously members were able to transfer a minimum of 2,000 Flybuys points, receiving 870 Velocity Points in return. Now members will be able to receive 500 Velocity Points for every 1,000 Flybuys points transferred – giving members more Points to redeem on Virgin Australia flights.
John Merakovsky, Chief Executive Officer, Flybuys, said of the change: “Many Flybuys members have taken advantage of our long-standing partnership with Velocity to redeem their points earned on the ground for Velocity Points. Today we’re excited to announce that we’ve enriched that experience by offering a better conversion rate.”

To take advantage of the new transfer rate, members of both loyalty programs will need to link their accounts at the Velocity Frequent Flyer partner page on flybuys.com.au.
The new transfer rate follows a recent update to the way in which members can transfer their Flybuys points to Velocity through Auto Transfer. Auto Transfer allows members
to opt in to have their Flybuys points automatically transferred to Velocity when 1,000 Flybuys points are collected, making it simple and easy to earn Velocity Points.
Flybuys and Velocity Frequent Flyer first partnered in 2016, allowing members to transfer to Velocity Points and earn Velocity Status Credits, to fly faster, just by shopping for everyday essentials.
