Earn Velocity Points with Virgin Australia

Earn Points with Virgin Australia when you travel in an eligible fare class. You can also earn Status Credits on all eligible fare types.

How many Points will I earn?

Domestic flights

Velocity members earn 5 Velocity Points per $1 spent on all eligible domestic fares3, Trans-Tasman5 and International Short Haul flights6.

Trans-Tasman and International Short Haul flights

Virgin Australia Trans-Tasman includes all flights between Australia and New Zealand. 

​​​​​​​Virgin Australia International Short Haul includes all international flights from Australia to Cook Islands, Fiji, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu.

Velocity members earn 5 Velocity Points per $1 spent on all eligible Trans-Tasman5 and International Short Haul fares6.

Domestic flights flown as part of a Trans-Tasman or International Short Haul journey earn at the same rate as domestic standalone journeys.

Christmas Island and Cocos (Keeling) Island earn at the same rate as domestic flights.

When flying on a Virgin Australia operated flight with a partner airline flight number (e.g. EY2004), you will earn Velocity Points and Status Credits based on your fare class and the number of miles flown.

Earn bonus Points with Status

Platinum, Gold and Silver members also earn a Points bonus in addition to the Base Points4 earned. 

Silver members will receive an additional 50% Points; Gold members will receive an additional 75% Points; and Platinum members will receive an additional 100% Points. The Points bonus does not apply to Domestic Getaway fares.

International Long Haul

Velocity Points cannot be earned on:

  • A flight where the membership number entered is not the membership number of the passenger travelling
  • Reward Seat bookings, excluding Any Seat
  • Any fare class that is not listed above
  • Upgraded fares: Members travelling on upgraded fares that are purchased with Points, Upgrade Me Platinum Member Offer, Upgrade Me Premium Bids or using cash at the airport will earn Points based on the fare class originally purchased.

Claim missing Points and Status Credits

It can take up to 14 days after your flight for your Points to be added to your Account.
If your Points have not been credited after 14 days, or if you forgot to add your Velocity membership number prior to travelling, you can submit a missing Points claim by logging into your Velocity Account and following the steps provided.

Virgin Australia codeshare partnerships

Velocity allows members to earn Points on certain flights who share their codeshare with Virgin Australia. You can earn Points on eligible fare class when flying Air Canada, PNG Air and more.

Earn Status Credits with Virgin Australia

Earn Status Credits when you travel on eligible fares with Virgin Australia2. The Status Credits you earn will depend on where you fly and the fare purchased. You can also keep track of your Status Credits in My Velocity.

Status Credits are valid for a period of 12 months, from the date flown. The number of Status Credits you earn depends on the distance flown, airline booked and fare class eligibility2

As a Velocity member, you can redeem your Points for flights right across our Virgin Australia Australian domestic network, or use your Points to upgrade to Business Class.

Change fees waived

We’ll waive fees for any changes you make to redemption bookings made between 15 May 2020 and until 31 March 2021 inclusive, for travel commencing before 30 June 2021. Changes must be made before the date of travel or 30 June 2021 (whichever is earlier).

Terms & Conditions:

1. A codeshare flight is a Flight that is operated by one airline with a flight number of another airline. For example, a flight with a VA flight number, but the aircraft is operated by a different airline.

2. Status Credits cannot be earned on all fare classes. Status Credits can only be earned on eligible flights, marketed and operated by Virgin Australia and/or a Velocity airline partner. Status Credits cannot be earned on flights operated by Air Canada (AC) with an AC flight number or on Virgin Australia operated flights with an AC flight number. Status Credits cannot be earned on Virgin Australia operated flights sold with an Air Mauritius (MK) flight number. Status Credits accrual is based on single flight segments that consist of individual flight numbers. An itinerary that involves a change in aircraft but retains the same flight number is considered a single flight segment. An itinerary that consists of a change in flight numbers, even if the same aircraft is used for the entire itinerary, is considered two flight segments. Domestic flights booked within an International journey will accrue Status Credits at the earn level for international flights. Members travelling on upgraded fares purchased with Points or any other subsidised means of upgrades on Virgin Australia or our partner airlines will earn Status Credits based on original purchased fare class.

3. An eligible domestic flight is a flight operated by Virgin Australia with a VA flight number. Earn rates are correct as at 28 May 2018 and are subject to change. Check the Velocity Terms and Conditions for details about earning Points.

4. Base Points refers to the minimum number of Points that can be earned for an eligible activity or transaction by a Red member.

5. An eligible Trans-Tasman, International Short Haul flight, is a flight operated by Virgin Australia with a VA flight number. Earn rates are correct as at 28 May 2018 and are subject to change. Check the Velocity Terms and Conditions for details about earning Points.

6. Where your Trans-Tasman or International Short Haul journey contains a flight operated by another airline that does not have a VA flight number, then that flight will be ineligible for Points earn.  All other flights in the journey operated by Virgin Australia with a VA flight number will earn Points per dollar spent. Where your Trans-Tasman or International Short Haul journey contains a flight with a VA flight number operated by a Velocity Partner Airline you will earn Points based on your fare class and the number of miles flown for the whole journey, including any flights operated by Virgin Australia.
Flights purchased in New Zealand dollar (NZD) or other currency will earn Velocity Points based on the Australian dollar (AUD) equivalent spent.

7. Virgin Australia International Long Haul: Only the fare classes listed in the Virgin Australia International Long Haul table above are eligibile for earning Points. Various fare classes may not be available all year round and certain fare types will vary depending on the destination. Please check your itinerary is eligible to earn Points before completing your booking. If you are unable to determine your fare class please contact the Guest Contact Centre or your booking agent for assistance.

  • Velocity Points cannot be earned on flights operated by Air Canada (AC) with an AC flight number or on Virgin Australia operated flights with an AC flight number
  • Virgin Australia operated flights sold with an Air Mauritius (MK) flight number are ineligible to earn Velocity Points

8. Where a member travels on Virgin Australia flights that begin with a VA flight number (irrespective of whether the journey consists of domestic, international short haul or international long haul Flight Sectors), each Flight Sector will be considered an Eligible Sector.

9.  Where your Trans-Tasman or International Short Haul journey contains a flight operated by another airline that does not have a VA flight number, then that flight will be ineligible for Status Credit earn.  All other flights in the journey operated by Virgin Australia with a VA flight number will Status Credits per the above tables. Where your Trans-Tasman or International Short Haul journey contains a flight with a VA flight number operated by a Velocity Partner Airline you will earn Status Credits based on your fare class and the number of miles flown for the whole journey, including any flights operated by Virgin Australia.

10. Includes all Virgin Australia codeshare services operated by partner airlines with a VA flight number.

  • Status Credits are not earned on Reward Seat bookings on either Virgin Australia or partner airline operated flights

11. Points + Pay: The quoted Points discount is correct as at 22 January 2020 and redemption levels are subject to change at the discretion of Velocity Frequent Flyer.
