There are four levels of Velocity membership that determine the types of benefits you receive when you travel. After entry level membership, you can upgrade to Silver and from there to Gold Velocity and Platinum Velocity membership.

Status Credits are what we use to determine your Velocity membership level – Platinum, Gold or Silver - and can only be earned in a few ways, which is what makes them different to earning Velocity Points.
HOW TO EARN STATUS CREDITS WHEN YOU FLY
You will earn Status Credits whenever you fly on eligible flights with Virgin Australia and our airline partners. The more frequently and further you fly and the more flexible a fare type you book, the more Status Credits you will earn. Just one Business Class trip could see you well on your way to upgrading to a higher level of membership.

Earn Status Credits when you shop by using your linked flybuys card at Coles, Coles Online, Liquorland or First Choice Liquor. You’ll earn 1 Status Credit for every $100 spent on eligible purchases, up to a maximum of 10 Status Credits per month1.

If you’re an American Express Velocity Platinum Card holder, you’ll receive 100 Status Credits when you spend a minimum of $50,000 within your card membership year2.

As a Platinum, Gold or Silver member, you will earn a Velocity Points bonus3 when you fly on eligible Virgin Australia fares and with our partner Etihad Airways and Delta Air Lines, plus when you book with selected Velocity accommodation, car hire, insurance and travel partners.

- 100 Velocity Frequent Flyer Status Credits will be awarded when you spend a minimum of $50,000 (on Eligible Spend) within your card membership year. Card membership year means 365 days from the anniversary date of your American Express Velocity Platinum Card. Eligible Spend does not include cash type purchases on a Card, for example travellers cheques and foreign currencies or any interest, fees or charges (including late payment or dishonoured payments) charged to the Card account. Please allow up to 2 weeks after you meet the minimum spend requirement for the Velocity Frequent Flyer Status Credits to be credited to your Velocity account. In addition to Status Credits, Velocity members need to fly on Virgin Australia marketed flights to earn Eligible Sectors to upgrade or maintain a level of membership.
- Points bonuses are earned in addition to the base Points earned. Base Points means the minimum number of Points which would be earned for an eligible activity or transaction by all members, irrespective of Velocity membership level. Points bonuses are calculated on Base Points earned for Domestic flights and calculated on miles flown for international Trans Tasman, Short Haul and Long Haul flights. This excludes Trans Tasman and International Short Haul flights purchased from 1 August 2018 for travel from 28 October 2018 where Points bonus will be calculated on base Points earned rather than miles flown.
